History and success - ABUS / Schließanlagen GmbH Pfaffenhain

• Foundation of the company on 1 January 1946 by qualified engineer Mr Hans Wetzel “Mechanische Werkstätten Pfaffenhain Erzgebirge”.
  In addition to the production of urgently needed equipment like drilling machines, grinding machines, opticians workbenches the manufacturing of furniture locks and profile cylinder locks began.

• Under partial GDR state control the company was registered under the name “Hans Wetzel Mechanische Werkstätten Pfaffenhain”.

• On national instruction, the enterprise became “VEB”, and thus became a company owned by the state and its people.
• The new name of the firm was “VEB Schloßfabrik Pfaffenhain”.

• Because of the change in the social system of the former GDR, the heirs of the founding father of the company were able to privatise the firm again, under the new name: “Schließanlagen GmbH Pfaffenhain”.
• Mr Christoph Rainer and Mr Konrad Köhler weremade company directors.
• The company adapted itself to the requirements of the free market and the modern economy.

• The firm celebrates its 50 years in the service of security.

• Schließanlagen GmbH Pfaffenhain became a subsidiary of August Bremicker und Söhne KG Wetter (ABUS)
